Description
This R2-D2 model is a motorized, 15 inch tall replica of the little droid from the Star Wars films. It has blinking lights, beeps and boops - just like the 'real' one.
This robot is equipped with infra-red and sonar technology as well as speech recognition.
It navigates rooms and hallways, obeys over 40 voice commands (like "turn around!", "move forward!"), plays children's games like tag with an IR sensor that can be set to detect motion. This robot can also replay sounds and dialog from Star Wars movies, answer yes-or-no questions and dance. You can also turn it into a room sentry that sounds an alarm when a secured area is invaded.
This r2d2 also features beverage holder, illuminating light beam, manipulator arm gravity-induced cargo area, adaptable droid mood status indicator. It can turn his head about 350 degrees. It moves great on tile, wood, area rugs and carpeted floors. Unfortunately it does not recognize stairs. R2-D2 can operate in four different modes: Companion, Command, Course, and Game.
Requires four AA batteries and four D batteries. He comes not quite fully assembled, but putting it together is an easy task.

| I bougth this robot for my 7 year old kid for Christmas. It works OK, although he has a hard time getting it to respond to all commands, especially in even light background noise. (He is not a native English speaker, but I have written a translation of the manual for him.).However, I have a problem with the batteries. It uses 4 D cells, and 4 AA cells. And while we have yet to replace the D cells, it will empty the 4 AA cells totally in a couple of days, _even_ when set to off - that is, the on-off button in the off position. Typical use cycle is like this: insert fresh AA cells, turn on, use for upto 10 minutes, turn off, leave for a couple of days, and the, absolutely no power on the AA cells - completly drained, that is, 0 volts when measured.I am quite perplexed about this, and would really like some advice. Normally electronics do not consume batteries in the "off" position?I have wondered about the "correctness" of shutting the toy off. The reason he does it, is because he often cannot get R2D2 to respond to his commands, even "Re-set system". But, perhaps all these boots use up a lot of energy?I hope someone can help me out on this - we litterally have to replace the batteries each time he wants to play with it.Adding to the confusion is this passage from the manual: "(Re-chargeablebatteries, such as NiCd or NiMH, will workwell for the "D" cells, but are notnecessary for the "AA" batteries.)"Our experience is opposite: The AA batteries/cells are depleted, the D cells are almost full (I measure them each time I change the AA batteries).Could our unit be faulty? Is there a way to determine this? Thanks in advance for any advice or experience on the matter. |

| Kathleen - go in to the Hasbro web site and print a copy of the instructions from there. If he doesn't respond, tap him on the head and make sure the wheel lock is off (red button at base). |
