robotic vacuums

Robotic vacuums are great fun (especially to watch), but you might still need a traditional vacuum cleaner for inhaling ceiling-bound cobwebs, cleaning corners and stairs or getting crumbs out from behind the chair cushions.

Unfortunately most of the low-end models still need lots of manual intervention. Only the more expensive models feature recharging base and in some cases your robo-vacuum not only recharges itself but also empties the dust bin.

Some models have several sensors and are capable of creating a map of the room they are about to clean. They use this map that will optimize their cleaning process and path.

The reliability of these products was very low (you were lucky if your robotic cleaner still worked after 1 year) until 2007. However, in 2007 iRobot released Roomba 500 series that should last up to 5 years!

After finishing its work, it returns automatically to the base station where its dust container is emptied, into the base station paper filter bag, and its batteries recharged. The navigation for the unit is provided by infrared beam and the Robocleaner can find its own way back to the base station there is no need for set boundaries just plug in and go.
