Yume Neko Smile (translated as Dream Cat Smile) is perfect for those who want a real cat but cannot have one.
It is 13-inches tall, weighs around 4.5lbs and is incredibly soft and lifelike.
It can blink, move its mouth and neck, rear up and lie down, all the time purring, meowing
and hissing if you upset her by squeezing her tail.
Pet the robo-cat on the head and it starts purring and flicking its tail around.
Stroke its back and it starts to get sleepy.
It is powered by three C batteries that are hidden behind a velcro-closed flap in its stomach.
The five touch sensors located in different places on Yume-Neko's body allow you and the cat to engage in tactile communication.
If you stop interacting with it, it will fall asleep, briefly snoring before settling down into a low-power mode.
You have to treat it as a normal cat: give it some attention and wait
to see whether movement or sound is forthcoming.
The exact nature of what will and will not be picked up is equally uncertain.
Although the manufacturer (Sega Toys) makes no mention of sound or
light sensors, some people are convinced that there was a reaction to them calling out,
or moving across the cat's field of vision.
Unfortunately you can hear the motors whirring (the sounds are pretty obvious) and there is no warm body beneath the polyester fur.
