Description

Robovie-M version 3 is a robot kit to build programmable humanoid robot that can play soccer. It is an ideal robot kit even for beginners.

It is equiped with a CPU (H8/3687 20MHz processor), 22 joint angular sensors, 12 axial accelerating sensors and it is moved by 20 servo motors. The dual axis accelerometer makes it the most stable biped hobby robot available.

It is capable of throwing objects, punching, somersaulting, doing handstands, running, side stepping, and playing soccer! The Robovie-M V3 can also detect when it has fallen down, and will automatically pull itself back up to a standing position.

The Robovie-M V3 kit comes with a set of over 70 predefined programs, making programming and configuration easy. It can be also be programmed to the user specifications and controllable via remote control or PC.

When assembled, Robovie-M has a very raw look: a faceless assembly of motors, metal parts and cables. It doesn't have much 'intelligence': it does not have digital camera eyes and it cannot talk or recognise words. After you turn it on the robot will walk steadily back and forth. It responds is very well (fast) to the commands and its movements are great to watch (flip up on its legs in one jump from lying on its back).

The kit includes all the parts including frames, servomotors, CPU board, battery, battery charger, AC adapter, serial cable, connector, cables, screws. You will also get a software to make the robot move, called 'TopDancer', an attache case in which you can put the robot and the battery charger and a manual which indicates the quantity and the place of each part. Additionally you can purchase a remote control.

Programming You can program your original moves using packaged software you load on your computer, which communicates with the robot via a USB connection.

Pros

  • Very stable.
  • Capable of throwing objects, punching, etc.
  • Stands up by itself.
  • Movements are great to watch.

Cons

  • Cannot do much on its own.
  • No digital camera eyes.
  • Cannot talk or recognise words.

I find it quite ridiculous that something that can only walk and pick things up that requires assembely would cost 3000 dollars.

This robot no longer costs $3800. It can be purchased online with full English manuals and software for less than $2700 at roboporium.
