Editor's Opinion

It is a plastic dinosaur that does not do much.

Description

Roboreptile is roughly half the size of the Roboraptor and far more mobile. It can turn around, move quickly from place to place, hop and jump. It includes audio, visual, and touch sensitivity, so it will hear and see you. The touch sensor on its back allows it to respond to human interaction by performing a short animation. The sharp sonic sensors enables it to detect sharp loud sounds which it will run towards. Its vision sensors (infra-red) enable it to detect movement and avoid obstacles. It has 3 different moods to accentuate its personality: ferocious, aggressive, passive.

Roboreptile uses realistic biomorphic motion and advanced natural dynamics for movement. It has the ability to run at high speeds on four legs, but then can switch over to a slower bipedal movement for other situations. It uses IR and sonic sensors to prevent reckless running. It can be fully programmed to perform a variety of actions.

Roboreptile's default state is hungry, aggressive and active! It will start exploring his environment, attacking, roaring or moving away from anything it sees or hears. Be careful: this reptile knows how to bite! It will respond to a sound or movement by either letting out a big roar, or performing a pre-entered program (up to 20 steps). Unfortunately it cannot learn. When set loose, the Roboreptile will run speedily along on all fours, avoiding obstacles, until it encounters a potential threat. If so then it'll switch to biped mode to attack. To calm it down you will need to put included plastic hood over its face.

Roboteptile has five modes . It starts in Direct Control Mode and is in this state whenever he is waiting for, or performing, a controller command. Direct control mode allows you to take command over the toy and have it perform actions such as snapping, running, jumping and whipping its tail. In the program mode you can program the robot to perform a series of 20 different movements or animations. It will switch to Free Roam when any of its sensors registers an event. In this mode it will avoid obstacles and occasionally he will stop moving and listen for sharp, loud sounds. During this time his vision and touch sensors are active. If left in Free Roam Mode for about 5 minutes without any user interaction, Roboreptile will power down. In the 'hooded' mode Roboreptile's vision and sound sensors are inactive. After being 'hooded' for about 40 seconds Roboreptile will fall asleep ('sleep' mode) and after sleeping for approximately 10 minutes, it will power down.

This dino-robot has three moods : the default is the aggressive 'hungry' mood. It enters 'slow' after is has been fed. Feeding is easy: you just press a button. You can put him into 'controller chasing' mood after teasing him with the controller.

This robotic dinosaur comes with a remote control that you can use to set the activity mode, control the direction, it contains a feed button and a volume control. The robot will follow the remote if you hold down the "feed" button.

Roboreptile is fully functional right out of the box.

Pros

  • Audio, visual, and touch sensitivity.
  • Moves quickly, can hop and jump.
  • Easy to use.

Cons

  • Cannot learn and accepts only 20 step program.
  • Terrible on carpet.

This is a Glorified Toy. Very slow moving, Hard to learn to use, doesn't work on carpet, gets stuck and won't turn right. Very boring in my opinion. I'm getting ready to sell Mine. It definately was not worth the cost.

Did you know that roboreptile has internal tilt sensors. It allows the reptile to know whether if it is standing or sitting. Also khalid, tilt sensors allow robots to know if they are sitting or are on their sides.

lewis - December 28, 2006
same with me,when its feeding it doesn't know where the fodd is and mine dosen't open its mouth.
lewis - December 27, 2006
terrible on carpets, only good on that flat smooth wood 4
D-Robo - December 27, 2006
Barely moves on long-pile carpet, and not much better on smooth vinyl floor. Goes round in circles and response to controller is haphazard, at best. Even the cats ignore it now, and it's only been in the house two days! Good sounds and pre-set routines, but motion is what is needed! D-Robo
Maureen - December 25, 2006
